"Nonprofit considers five bids to bring solar panels to 100 homes"

Solarize Salem, a community group, is considering five bids for its program to bring solar electric panels to 100 Salem homes. The program is based on a half dozen grassroots efforts in Portland and other Oregon cities that bring neighbors together to buy solar installation in bulk to get a better rate and help educate each other on the process. The group, which is part of Salem Creative Network, will announce the two winning contractors, the installation price and open it up a sign-up sheet to all Salem homeowners Aug. 2.
