"Solar Decathlon 2011 Finalist - Pacific NW Exhibit"

The teams in this exhibition have already competed against their peers for one of the 20 places in the solar village. To secure a spot on the Mall, each team submitted extensive proposals, including models of their conceptual designs. With Solar Decathlon 2011 still more than a year away, all are hard at work designing their houses. The AIBD Convention is the only Pacific Northwest opportunity to view these models first hand.

"College board OK’s bonds"

Meeting in special session Tuesday, the board voted 6 to 0 in favor of posting an $8.2 million bond measure in the Wasco County portion of the college district to match an already allocated $8 million state grant. If approved, the money would go to build a new building at The Dalles campus to house wind and solar energy jobs training programs.

"Nonprofit considers five bids to bring solar panels to 100 homes"

Solarize Salem, a community group, is considering five bids for its program to bring solar electric panels to 100 Salem homes. The program is based on a half dozen grassroots efforts in Portland and other Oregon cities that bring neighbors together to buy solar installation in bulk to get a better rate and help educate each other on the process. The group, which is part of Salem Creative Network, will announce the two winning contractors, the installation price and open it up a sign-up sheet to all Salem homeowners Aug. 2.
