Back by
popular demand, it's time for our annual rooftop solar drinks party at
SolTerra! Our most popular solar drinks event of the year, join us on
SolTerra Systems' gorgeous rooftop deck for solar networking fun! After the presentations enjoy live music from Sunrise Review, food and drink and watch as our helicopter photographer flies by to snap shots from above!
Larry Hamburg of the Oregon Army National
Guard will present on the challenges and successes of the Department of
Defense's Net Zero Program, which aims to transform 52 sites
throughout the state of Oregon into Net Zero facilities! The sites
include a variety of solar and eco-friendly systems, including
solar-powered roof-top ventilation systems, micro-inverters, solar tube
day lighting, ground source heat pumps, eco-roofs and more! Combined, the 52 sites cover 3.1 million square feet and use over 20 million kilowatt hours of electricity! Larry
will talk about his experience pioneering through the net zero energy
program. He'll touch on the barriers to the program, creating
reduction goals and renewable energy targets, financing aspects, and
future plans.
Rosie Parker, a rising 7th grader at St. Pius X Catholic School in Portland, will talk about a research project she conducted last April that took the top prize in her category at the Intel Northwest Science Expo and received a commendation from the US Navy. Rosie tested and compared the insulation and heat transference effects of a black roof, white roof, green roof, and a roof made of simulated polar bear fur. (No polar bears were harmed during the course of the experiments.)

Food and drink will be provided. As always, a $5 donation is requested from non-Solar Oregon members to help cover the costs of the event.
