Green Tags FAQ

Photovoltaics can earn you money!

Q – Really?
A – Yes. Additional incentives are available to owners of solar photovoltaic systems throughout Oregon and Washington.

Q – So, what are Green Tags?
A – Green Tags (also known as Renewable Energy Certificates - RECs) are the environmental attributes of a renewable energy system, including the ability to offset greenhouse gas production. Green Tags/RECs are now a separately marketable commodity and can be sold by owners of renewable energy systems including photovoltaic and wind. This puts extra money into the pockets of wind and solar energy producers!

Q – How much money could I get?
A – The Northwest Solar Coop buys Green Tags at 2 cents per kilowatt hour for a photovoltaic or small wind energy system. The contracts pay for every kilowatt hour generated until December 31, 2009.

Q – How do I know what kind of price I can get paid for my Green Tags?
A – The Northwest Solar Cooperative currently has agreements to sell your Tags to the 3 Degrees Group (3D).

To sell your tags through the Coop to 3 Degrees Group for 2 cents per kWh through December 31, 2009, your system must:

1. Be located in Oregon , Washington , Idaho , or Montana
2. Be any size up to 50 kW
3. Be either solar PV or small wind
4. Be Grid-Tied

Q – How do I sell Green Tags?
A – If you want to sell your Green Tags, follow the steps on the Northwest Solar Coop main page. You will need to fill out some short forms and send them to Solar Oregon.

Q – How do I buy Green Tags to support more solar installations?
A – If you want to support the installation of more renewable energy, you can buy Green Tags directly from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation's and 3 Degrees web sites. Or you may buy 3 Degrees Green Tags by buying Pacificorp's Blue Sky energy.
