2014 SOLAR NOW! UNIVERSITY - June 13-14
This year’s conference in Hillsboro is bigger and shinier than ever before!
Solar Now! University (SNU) conference is happening in a few short days and we want to inform you of what to expect of this once-a-year special event. First and foremost, the program came together much better than any of us could’ve ever imagined. The line-up and quality of the program offering, as well as the associated events like the dinner, awards lunch and field trips, is way beyond anything Solar Oregon has ever done in a single event.
SNU 2014 will be a big step up from previous years, not only in scope and attendance, but also in importance as we’ve increased our reach and captured national attention. Solar power experts from as far away as Washington DC, Colorado and Seattle will be attending and presenting. Representatives from U.S. Department of Energy and the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) will speak and lead some workshop sessions. They will provide a look at the solar energy landscape at the national level. Community solar experts like Tom Hunt of Clean Energy Collective and Linda Irvine of Northwest SEED will be showing us how to get solar done in our communities.
Partnering with us to host this year’s conference is the City of Hillsboro. Like Solar Oregon, Hillsboro is a partner in the Northwest Solar Communities / a Rooftop Solar Challenge II grant program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy.
“We are excited by the notion of the City of Hillsboro hosting this year. They’ve been a leader in sustainability and welcomed the opportunity to host in order to bring together organizations and individuals to help spread solar throughout the region,” stated Ron “Mac” McDowell, Executive Director of Solar Oregon.
In addition to Hillsboro, we’ve partnered with Energy Trust of Oregon, Northwest Solar Communities, Oregon Department of Energy, Oregonians for Renewable Energy Progress, and Northwest SEED to bring you SNU 2014. Our major sponsors include industry and market heavyweights such as SolarWorld, Umpqua Bank, SolarCity, Platt Electric, Drive Oregon, Neil Kelly/Mr. Sun Solar and Clean Energy Works Oregon.
This two-day conference will kick-off with a meet ‘n greet event Thursday evening at SolarWorld’s U.S. Headquarters in Hillsboro, June 12th, with the opening session on Friday morning. The program will continue all day Friday and Saturday morning and will offer a solution-centered deep dive into the solar sector of the Pacific Northwest region with focus on four key areas: community solar, innovation and technology, solarize train the trainer, and Northwest Solar Communities’ work to reduce or remove soft costs barriers to solar in our region. On Saturday afternoon, SNU attendees will have the option to join one of two in-the-field solar viewing trips around Washington County.
