A message from the President

By Solar Oregon Board President Ron "Mac" McDowell

Greetings Solar Oregon Community,

I’m pleased to inform that our fall membership drive has brought 40 new members to our organization. We’re growing and that has its challenges, especially for our executive director and staff, but the upside is that we have more people who are willing to step up and volunteer for Solar Oregon. That’s good. We certainly couldn’t accomplish much if it weren’t for our volunteers – board members, professionals and individuals alike.

As solar advocates, we sincerely appreciate anyone who contributes to getting solar installed, but we wanted to recognize outstanding effort or achievement by individuals and organizations who have gone above and beyond to help grow access to solar energy here in Oregon. We also wanted to thank those who’ve given their personal time directly to Solar Oregon.

Announcing … 2012 Solar Oregon Awards

Since it is award season, we decided to hand out some hardware ourselves, so beginning today we’ll accept your nominees for five major award categories:

§  2012 Volunteer of the Year

§  Solar Ambassador of the Year

§  Solar Professional of the Year

§  Solar Community of the Year

§  Most Impactful Solar Installation of the Year

You must be a paid member to nominate or vote. Please present your nomination on our Facebook page for all to see.

We will select (vote) from the list of nominees presented at our upcoming Annual Member Meeting on Saturday, November 17th. Those selected will be presented their award at our 2nd Annual Community Dinner event scheduled for December 4th at Aviary on Alberta – recently named Portland’s Restaurant of the Year.

In the meantime, take a look at our Facebook page and read some of the postings we’re doing to celebrate our volunteers and nominees.

These posts tell the story of people who’ve donated their precious time, energy and money to support renewable energy in America.  It tells the story of Solar Oregon.

It is a pleasure for us to recognize these people and places for their hard work, sacrifice, and leadership. Thanks for all you do. Please keep on doing what you’re doing for your community and for the planet.

* My personal plea … Please join up before November 30th to get the special individual member rate of only $20! On our website, click on "Join Solar Oregon" tab, then choose the Student/Senior rate. It's that simple. Together, let's make the world a better place!
