Eugene (KMTR) – A unique weekend tour gave Eugene neighbors a chance to learn from each other about ways to transform homes into earth-friendly living spaces.
Sunday, the 2010 "Green Neighbor (not just) Bike Tours" took a spin through the East Friendly neighborhood.
Now in its third year, the popular tour takes a look at some of the greenest homes and neighborhoods in the area. Participants can check out the changes residents have made to their homes, from green building to solar panels.
Organizers say doing the tour by bicycle encourages conversation and inspiration for change.
Bike tour leader Doug Black said, “These are thoughts that people have maybe just started to think about. They're concerned about climate change, they're concerned about the rising cost of food or fuel, and, ‘How long can we keep living this kind of a lifestyle we've had?’ So maybe we should start thinking about something that's closer to home.”
There are six more bike tours scheduled through September.
Next weekend, the Jefferson Westside Neighborhood tour meets at Monroe Park. On August 21, the Amazon Neighborhood tour meets at Camas Ridge Community School.
The complete tour schedule is available on the Web site of the Neighborhood Leaders Council
