Energy Trust of Oregon is helping commercial and industrial customers who may be impacted by changes to state energy tax credits by providing bonus cash incentives for qualified lighting upgrades and custom capital energy efficiency improvements.

To be eligible for these bonus incentives, a project must be enrolled with Energy Trust September 1 or later and be completed by December 15, 2011.

The bonus incentives will be available for eligible projects served by Existing Buildings, Existing Multifamily and Production Efficiency.

Bonus incentives for commercial and industrial lighting

Upgrades to commercial and industrial lighting systems are often the first step for businesses seeking to reduce energy use and manage energy as a variable cost.

For these projects, customers may receive:

  • Up to 50 percent bonus incentive for custom lighting installations
  • Up to 20 percent bonus incentive for standard lighting installations

Your lighting contractor can calculate your estimated incentive as part of their bid. Pre-approval is required for all lighting projects and post-installation inspections may be conducted.

Bonus incentives for custom capital upgrades

Custom capital energy efficiency projects that save electricity and natural gas, such as:

  • Heating, ventilating and air conditioning
  • Compressed air systems
  • Boiler retrofits

These projects, and other upgrades, may qualify for a bonus incentive of up to 20 percent. The total incentive, including the bonus, will be calculated in the incentive offer provided prior to installation. Pre-approval is required for all custom capital upgrade projects and post-installation inspections may be conducted.

Background

House Bill 3672, approved by the Oregon Legislature and signed by Governor John Kitzhaber on August 5, 2011, amends, sunsets and creates a number of tax credit programs currently administered by the Oregon Department of Energy. Business Energy Tax Credit applications received after April 15, 2011, are being returned to applicants with a full refund.

Details of how the new programs will be implemented are to be determined during the Oregon Department of Energy’s public rulemaking process. Until the rulemaking process is complete, Oregon Department of Energy will not accept any new tax credit applications for commercial and industrial projects. For more information about the tax credit change, call Oregon Department of Energy at 1.800.221.8035 or visit www.oregon.gov/energy/cons/bus/betc.shtml.

This legislation does not change Energy Trust programs or incentives which are available for eligible customers.

Incentives are subject to funding availability and may change.
