The Energy Trust of Oregon on Thursday said it saved customers of regional utilities $233 million on their energy bills in 2011.

The Portland-based, utility-funded nonprofit group since 2002 has issued cash incentives and other services to promote investments in energy efficiency technology and the construction of renewable energy systems.

Last year, its programs helped save 46.9 average megawatts of electricity, 5.4 million therms of natural gas and enabled the installation of more than 1,300 residential and commercial solar energy systems.
