Holiday Message from Solar Oregon's Board President

Hello All and Seasons Greetings!

I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to everyone who has given to our modest non-profit this past year.

THANK YOU for being a supporter of Solar Oregon.

In this climate of financial and policy challenges, few American Solar Energy Society (ASES) chapters have been able to match what Solar Oregon has accomplished this year. Credit the hard work of Executive Director Claire Carlson and her staff, and also the generosity and support of our members, partners and the communities we serve. Your support helped us rise to some prominence in 2012.

I can’t help but feel proud of all the work our board, staff, and volunteers did this year to increase solar literacy in our state – through our outreach events, workshops, and educational programs. I’m also proud of our growing network of energy professionals and businesses that provide support for these programs. Finally, I’m proud to be the President and a Solar Ambassador of this special organization.

That being said, there is still much work to do.

We need to hone our strategic planning, so the board of directors will meet in January to review the past year, build on our successes, and develop new focus and direction for the organization. We share a desire to remain relevant in a quickly changing environment and plan to continue our mission of leading the way to a clean energy future by demonstrating the successful use of solar energy in Oregon.

If you have ideas of how you’d like to get more involved, or thoughts on how Solar Oregon can better serve our mission, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Email

I wish you all a very happy and healthy holiday season. See you in 2013!

RC “Mac” McDowell
