"Portland Ikea going greener with solar, EV charging stations"

Ikea announced Wednesday plan to install solar panels on three additional U.S. locations, including its Portland store. The three new additions to Ikea's solar portfolio — Portland, Draper, Utah and New Haven, Conn. — will bring the total number of U.S. stores outfitted with panels to 23, more than half of the chain's U.S. presence.

Ikea announced Wednesday plan to install solar panels on three additional U.S. locations, including its Portland store.

The three new additions to Ikea's solar portfolio — Portland, Draper, Utah and New Haven, Conn. — will bring the total number of U.S. stores outfitted with panels to 23, more than half of the chain's U.S. presence.

The news comes weeks after Ikea completed the installation of two electric vehicle car charging stations in the Ikea Portland parking lot.

Ikea Portland is slated to get 2,072 solar panels which will generate about 568,900 kilowatt hours per year, which Ikea estimates will be the equivalent carbon savings of taking 77 cars off the road.

Last year, Ikea announced it would add solar panels to eight of its stores in California. The chain, which bases its U.S. operations in Conshohocken, Penn., added solar to a geothermal-powered store in Colorado in January.
