SOLAR OREGON AWARD WINNERS NAMED FOR 2013
At our annual membership meeting we announced and voted on the nominees for the 2013 Solar Oregon awards. We recognized eleven solar supporters and four solar professional businesses for their contributions to Solar Oregon’s outreach and education work, and to the advancement of solar energy in Oregon.
We’re happy to announce the winners for 2013 …ADAM HENKE – Volunteer of the Year
JENNIFER BARKER – Solar Ambassador of the Year
SYNCHRO SOLAR – Solar Professional of the Year
These award winners will be invited as honored guests to our next community dinner event and presented with their awards. Congratulations to all the award nominees for this year, every one of them is deserving of this recognition for their achievements.
When we went looking for an educated and passionate volunteer to conduct outreach activities in support of the City’s Solar Forward program, we found ADAM HENKE. Since then, Adam has become a key Community Solar Intern for our organization. Adam has recruited others to the cause, by conducting several neighborhood volunteer orientations, tabling at community events, and approaching local businesses & associations to help sponsor and promote solar.
For 15 years JENNIFER BARKER was executive director of the non-profit EORenew and she is best known for organizing the annual SolWest Fair. Alas, this was the final year of this event in John Day Oregon under Jennifer’s leadership, but she is still organizing, educating, writing and speaking about renewable energy and sustainability. She still works tirelessly for solar living and is the embodiment of what this award is all about. Jennifer is a Certified Residential Energy Auditor, and has received an Oregon Solar Pioneer Award. She most enjoys teaching energy concepts and energy physics to school children, as she considers them the generation who must adapt to the "new normal" in energy. Jennifer has lived off-grid full-time since 1988.
SYNCHRO SOLAR- Brion Wickstrom, Sarah Freel, Jennifer Hall and Randy Feldhaus are being recognized for solar projects in the community they contributed to this year. In addition to volunteering their time on the Jewell School installation they completed the high profile June Key Delta Community Center's installation in Portland this fall. Synchro had to jump through a lot of hoops to get that system on JKDCC. The Deltas awarded the solar contract to Synchro Solar, which is 50% owned by women, to help get the center to NetZero energy consumption. This project was possible due to a Blue Sky grant from Pacific Power plus some generous donations from the local solar community.
