ASHLAND, Ore. -- Southern Oregon University is ready to install solar panels on it's new student housing complexes.S.O.U. started putting up solar panel brackets on the new student housing and the actual panels will go up next week. The project should take about three weeks for Mclaughlin Hall and another solar company will come in to install panels on Shasta Hall.University Facilities Director, Drew Gilliland, said about 45% of the funding for the panels comes from a grant from the state energy department and incentives from Bonneville and the city of Ashland.Gilliland also said, depending on the time of year, the panels will help cover around 20% of the building's electricity. We want to look at everything when it comes to producing energy and solar is a big part of that, but we can only go so far with solar, Gilliland said.Gilliland said they want to leave no stone unturned when it comes to energy conservation with the university putting solar panels up and looking at water reduction and more efficient lighting.
