On August 16, 2010 a group of four innovative electric vehicles started a journey around the world under the banner of the zero emissions race.
Race organizer Louis Palmer, who won the 2008 European Solar Prize and himself circled the globe in his home-built Solar Taxi two years ago, continues to build awareness around the planet about how electricity from the sun can readily power buildings and vehicles.
The race started in Geneva, Switzerland and has led through Eastern Europe to Russia, then Kazakhstan and finally China, where they arrived in Shanghai about a month ago. From there vehicles and crews had to wait for a ship to take them to Vancouver, BC and with some delays, they were able to go through customs this past Monday.
Now they are getting ready to head down the West Coast and then through Mexico where they hope to arrive in time for the World Climate Change Conference in Cancun at the end of November.

The zero emissions race is scheduled to arrive in Portland on Saturday evening (Nov.13) where they will be greeted by the Oregon Electric Vehicle Association and Portland General Electric at their World Trade Center headquarters on 121 SW Salmon St.
