You are invited to attend this day-long event which tells the story of three Portland homes attempting Net Zero Energy use. Explore the technologies and design features, firsthand, that make Zero Energy buildings possible. We will begin the day with a workshop to familiarize you with the strategies and details to look for in each home on the tour, and to inform you of the financial incentives available in Oregon. The afternoon tour showcases:
- One home under construction and designed for Net Zero displaying construction details before they are hidden by finishes.
- One recently built and occupied home designed for Net Zero.
- One vintage home in the early stages of renovation with the goal of Net Zero. This home will host a blower door demonstration, which measures unplanned air leakage.
We provide side by side comparisons of the building envelope, appliance and equipment choices for each home as well as an energy analysis giving you plenty of technical information to guide your own Net Zero goals. The workshop and tour provides usable knowledge for building and real estate professionals, homeowners and home buyers. AIA continuing education credits are available. CEU’s for other professionals can be arranged. Contact Solar Oregon for details.
You will learn:
- What a Net Zero Energy home is
- What the universal organizing strategies are for achieving Net Zero
- How to do everything right from the start with new construction
- How to get the most bang for the buck with retrofitting
- What existing resources exist to help you finance
For homeowner, homebuyers and real estate professionals:
- Understand the value of a home that provides a lifetime of low or no cost comfort and energy security and how to achieve this
- Learn how to qualify your project team for net zero strategies
- Communicate to your lender the values that justify your loan amount
For architects and designers:
- Understand how to design new homes and remodels that will provide your clients with a lifetime of low or no cost comfort and energy security
- Communicate the values your design services can offer
For builders:
- Build and remodel homes that have much greater intrinsic value
- Differentiate yourself in a competitive market.
- Communicate to your lender/investors the values your home offers in the marketplace, and how that justifies the loan amount
To ensure a quality experience for everyone, space is limited to only 100 participants; we recommend purchasing tickets early. This event will sell out. Ticket includes workshop, lunch and bus shuttles to all three sites.
