Goal Net Zero 2010
Solar Oregon’s third annual Goal Net Zero (GNZ) Tour features four Portland homes reaching for Net Zero Energy use. Learn from the workshop and guided tour what can be achieved with deep energy retrofits and new construction. This year we are also introducing the European Passive House concept. The GNZ Tour is open to homeowners, designers, builders and real estate professionals who are interested in high performance homes. Sack lunches included.
| The third annual Goal Net Zero Home Tour was greeted with blue skies and pleasant sunshine. Over 60 attendees filed into the Sunnyside Environmental School for comprehensive workshops on Building Science, and introductions on the Passive House concept and Energy Use Index. During the breaks, participants got a chance to check out the monitoring kiosk of the schools educational solar electric system. Lunch was consumed in the beautifully landscaped front yard of the school in the presence of the school’s freely wandering chickens. The group then split up into two bio-diesel powered buses, which took them to four unique homes, mostly around SE Portland. Two of the homes were new construction, the others remodels. Although the approaches varied, the common goal among the projects was to drive energy consumption to a minimum. At each home, homeowners and building experts explained the many details that went into the projects. From blower door to energy charts and construction details to specific technologies and products, each of the projects had plenty of information to share.
