SUMMARY:Green Energy Series #19: Making Solar Affordable through Peer-to-Peer Loans
DESCRIPTION:Seeds for the Sol is a non-profit\, grass-roots organization taking action now to remove the financial barriers to residential solar. Our neighbor-to-neighbor funding model mimics the natural cycles of planting\, harvesting\, and renewal\, helping more people put solar on their roofs. We’re made up of concerned citizens who want to repurpose the benefits they’ve reaped from a fossil fuel economy\, passing them on to the next generation in the form of renewable energy. \nSpeaker Bio:\nJulie Williams – President and Founder Seeds for the SOL\nJulie has been a teacher at Corvallis High School since 1987. Her concern for the impending climate crisis has motivated her to create a course titled Sustainability and Society. She has a certificate of completion for Climate Masters and Climate Reality Leadership Training. She participated in a Fulbright-Japan exchange for teachers of ESD thru UNESCO. She has been an advocate for community solar since 2001\, and is the founder of Seeds for the Sol: Community Solar\, Giving Power to the People. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Green Energy Series #18: A Unique System PV + Thermal - Lessons Learned
DESCRIPTION:Fifteen years ago\, a packaged mechanical/electrical system branded “PVT” (standing for photovoltaic thermal) was developed by engineers in California. This system harvests heat from the photovoltaic panels for use in the home\, while cooling the PV panels. One of the first PVT systems installed was on Doug Boleyn’s new home built in 2009. This talk will discuss the lessons learned from the more than 10 years that the system has been operating in a suburb of Portland\, OR. \nSpeaker Bio:\nDoug is a retired solar professional\, having built his first solar (heated) house 50 years ago in 1974. Doug started his solar research and consulting career working at Portland General Electric for 20 years. He then formed his own consulting business\, Cascade Solar Consulting\, in 1998. After his Cascade Solar years\, he worked several years as Commercial Solar Manager at Energy Trust of Oregon. He retired in 2012. In 2009\, he built his second solar home in Happy Valley\, where he lives with his wife\, Emily. \nRegister here.
